Tracking HRT effects over time
How to monitor symptoms before and after starting hormone therapy to see what changes.
If you're starting or adjusting hormone therapy, consistent tracking shows what actually changes versus what you expect to change.
Before you start: establish baseline
Track your symptoms for 2-4 weeks before beginning. This gives you real data to compare against, not just memory.
What to track daily
- Key symptoms (hot flashes, sleep quality, mood, energy).
- Severity ratings (0-10 scale).
- Treatment timing and adherence.
- Side effects if any.
Early weeks: what to expect in your data
Changes often need weeks to appear. Keep logging even if you don't notice differences yet.
Monthly review points
Compare each month to your baseline:
- Are symptom averages shifting?
- Which symptoms are improving?
- Are any symptoms unchanged or worse?
- What side effects are you noting?
Adjustments and re-baselining
If anything changes (timing, formulation, etc.), mark that date clearly in your log so you can track effects of that specific change.
What to bring to appointments
- Baseline averages vs. current averages
- Timeline of when changes occurred
- Any side effects and when they started
- Questions about what to expect next
